Igor Ferrier-Barbut receives the CNRS 2025 bronze medal
Igor Ferrier-Barbut, CNRS research scientist in the Quantum Optics group at the Charles Fabry Laboratory (Institut d'Optique / CNRS / Université Paris-Saclay), has been awarded the CNRS 2025 Bronze Medal. This medal rewards early work by researchers who are specialists in their field. This distinction represents encouragement from the CNRS to continue research that is well underway and already fruitful.
Igor studied physics at the University of Grenoble and Berkeley before joining the École Normale Supérieure in Paris for his Master's degree and thesis. He carried out his thesis work at the Kastler-Brossel Laboratory, under the supervision of Christophe Salomon and Frédéric Chevy, on laser cooling and superfluidity in quantum gases. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Stuttgart, working on magnetic quantum fluids. Since 2018, he has been a research fellow at the CNRS at the Charles Fabry Laboratory in the Quantum Optics group.
