Lasers et Biophotonique

Laser and Biophotonic is divided into two groups:

ELSA

Visit ELSA website

We are a group of highly motivated scientists working on the development of new solid-state lasers and their applications. Our work begins with the study of new diode-pumped solid-state gain media: crystals, fibres and semiconductor structures, in order to cover a wide range of wavelength and time domain (cw to the femtosecond regime), by studying novel architectures including non linear optical functions for beam quality improvment and for reaching the visible-blue wavelength range. Our activity triggers numerous applications in biophotonics (fluorescence lifetime microscopy, high resolution imaging, eye surgery), metrology (optical frequency standards) and solid-state physics (harmonics generation, micromachining). The ELSA team is involved in the ILE (Institut de la Lumière Extrême) project and is in charge of the development of the front-end of the 10 PW Appolon laser facility.

MACSYBIO

Our research activities are centered on plasmonics and its application in the field of optical biochips. Real-time monitoring of the biochip surface with sub-nanometer sensitivity is made possible using the Surface plasmon resonance effect in a metallic layer. Nanostructures on the surface can further increase the sensitivity and the information density of the biochip with applications in biomolecular analysis. Genoptics company (links) was issue from this work.
