Founded in 1920 as one of the French Grande École of Engineering, Institut d’Optique Graduate School is a founding member of ParisTech.
Its international reputation is built on high quality academic and practical education, major scientific contributions of its research centre, and close ties with industry.
With an intake of over 100 students per year,
Institut d’Optique Graduate School offers the broadest scope in the field of optical sciences and engineering in Europe. It is now of the largest in terms of degrees awarded. It is a major research centre in the field of theoretical and applied optics and photonics.
Institut d’Optique Graduate School is established on three campuses, in Palaiseau (near Paris), Bordeaux and Saint-Etienne.
Institut d’Optique Graduate School is recognised under French law as being of public utility and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
Institut d’Optique Graduate School offers original engineering courses that combine top-level scientific and experiment-based teaching with training in general engineering skills as well as hands-on experience in the corporate world.
This course is accredited by the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI) , an independent organisation under French law that authorises engineering education. The School is also a founding member of ParisTech.
The engineering students at Institut d’Optique Graduate School are selected through the ParisTech roving international competition. The procedure is the same for all ParisTech Schools of Engineering and primarily concerns students in Asia, South America and Russia.
Institut d’Optique Graduate School trains top-level engineers for careers in research and development, engineering and management of high technologies that are evolving rapidly in optics and photonics.Their remarkable integration in the professional world is ensured by :
Top-level education in multiple scientific and technical fields;
Training in general engineering skills and hands-on experience in the corporate arena;
International internships and double degrees earned at foreign universities.
Labwork makes up a significant portion of the time spent by engineering students and master’s students. Courses are constantly updated and expanded to reflect the most recent advances in research in all areas of modern optics.
The languages section is an integral and lively part of the school.
English is compulsory and the training is rigorous so as to make it a reliable and efficient tool for all kinds of scientific and professional communication.
Courses in French for all those working at the Institut d'Optique Graduate School and whose native language is not French.
Engineering students are required to demonstrate their entrepreneurial skills during three internships: a summer internship lasting no more than one month at the end of their first year, an advanced internship lasting three to 6 months at the end of their second year, and a final internship of up to six months at the end of their third year and during which they must use the knowledge they have acquired during the course of their training.
